Manchester United’s season is being shaped by the treatment room as much as the training pitch. Michael Carrick’s side are winless in eight matches and 16th in the Premier League, and the injury list keeps growing. Here is the latest Man Utd injury news, with the expected return date for every sidelined player. Last updated: 27 October 2026, based on the latest club and media reports — this page is updated whenever the picture changes.
Benjamin Sesko — Shin Injury
Status: Out. Expected return: No date set.
Sesko has again been sidelined by the shin problem that ended his 2025/26 season early. He had worked his way back to feature in six matches this season, but was left out at Fulham and has now missed three league games. Carrick has refused to set a timeframe, so United’s main striker signing remains a week-to-week watch.
Marcus Rashford — Hip Problem
Status: Out. Expected return: Unknown.
Rashford missed the trip to Como with a hip issue and was not in the squad against Bournemouth either. He had been an unused substitute at Leeds the week before. Carrick said Rashford is “still feeling a hip issue that we’re trying to overcome” — with no return date given, he is not expected to face Chelsea.
Luke Shaw — Knock
Status: Out. Expected return: November.
Shaw was absent again for the Bournemouth match and, according to Carrick, is expected to be sidelined longer than Mainoo. His absence, combined with Dorgu’s injury, leaves United without a natural senior left-back.
Patrick Dorgu — Hamstring Injury
Status: Out. Expected return: A number of weeks.
Dorgu limped out of Denmark’s Nations League match against Wales after half an hour with a hamstring injury and returned to Carrington for assessment. Carrick’s verdict — “it looks like he’ll be out for a number of weeks” — rules him out of the Chelsea trip and probably the Roma match too.
Kobbie Mainoo — Muscle Problem
Status: Doubtful, but close. Expected return: Possibly Chelsea (31 October).
The one bright spot. Mainoo has missed four games, but Carrick said in mid-October he would be out for “10 days or so”, which puts him in contention for the squad at Stamford Bridge. Friday’s press conference should confirm whether he travels. Our Chelsea vs Man Utd preview explains what his return would mean for the midfield.
Manuel Ugarte — Ligament Injury
Status: Out long-term. Expected return: 2027.
Ugarte has not played a single minute this season. He was stretchered off during Uruguay’s World Cup defeat by Spain in the summer with a ligament injury and is not expected back until 2027. His absence is one reason United rebuilt their midfield with Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.
Who Is Fit?
The good news for Carrick is depth in some areas: Senne Lammens, Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Baleba, Tielemans, Santos, Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee are all available for selection, fitness permitting.
United’s next three matches will test that depth to the limit: Chelsea away on 31 October, Roma at home in the Champions League on 3 November and Aston Villa at home on 7 November.
